Three Nepali female climbers are in bid to set the world record by climbing Mt. K2, the hardest mountain to summit, this spring season.

According to Himalayan women welfare Society, experience mountaineers Maya Sherpa, Pasang Lamhu Sherpa and Dawa Yanzum Sherpa will embark on their 90 days journey to K2 also know as” Mountain of Mountain” on June 15.

If the first Nepali women K2 Expedition -2014 become a success, it will be the first Nepali female team of expedition to summit K2 (8.611m), world’s second highest mountain, Dawa Sherpa a member of organizing team, said.

After its first ascent by Italian climbers 60 years ago, only eight women have successfully climbed K2.

According Nima Naru Sherpa, adviser of the expedition, the expedition is organized by Himalayan Welfare Woman society in coordination with office of Prime minister, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of tourism and Civil Aviation, Nepal Mountaineering Association, Trekking Agencies Associations of Nepal and other agencies.
