Product Description

A fuller introduction to the route, pace, terrain, and overall trip style.

Helambu is a popular trekking region found in northern Kathmandu. The Helambu trek begins from Kathmandu and heads towards the north with pleasant walks through Sherpa villages and the forest of rhododendron flowers and pine trees. It is designed for those who have a desire to get close to the mountains within a short period time and in a less touristic manner, where people really enjoy the experience of walking along Nepalese trails and experiencing the daily life of a trekker. There are many Sherpa villages on the way with their own languages and ways of life. This trek takes you through the uphill regions of Shivapuri, and continues to Tharepati before ending up on the Melamchi Bridge, where you will catch a bus to Kathmandu.

The main highlights of the trek are the one-of-a-kind Tamang ethnic group, the Sherpas and their varying lifestyles, as well as the mind-blowing views of mountains along with other amazing landscapes. This is an easy-going trek with a maximum height of 3500m. Melamchi is the biggest traditional village en route, and it has a Tibetain Gompa along with interesting farmlands wherebasic foods such as potato, wheat, millet, and vegetables are produced for local families. Thus, the Helambu trek is aperfect adventure for those with a small window of time and a desire to experience local cultures and landscapes.

Health, fitness and experience requirements:

The Helambu Trek in the Langtang region of Nepal is considered moderate and anyone with average physical fitness level and sound health can plan this trek.

However, it is highly suggested to seek advice, medication and permission from your doctor before scheduling your trek. "AME Treks provided thoroughly professional support and guidance on our Helambu Circuit trek. From the moment we stepped out of the airport at Kathmandu, we felt confident that we have made a great choice. The cultural tour of Kathmandu was a great way to spend out first day in Nepal. Our tour leader was very knowledgable and showed us the significant sites in Kathmandu with great passion but also with good humour. Our 8 day Helambu Trek was lead by Bikal (Biki) Duwadi whose unceasing attention to detail helped make the trek such a memorable experience for my son and I. While listed as an easy/moderate trek, it was still physically challenging on some days with long steep climbs. Biki encouraged us to experience the sunrise and sunsets at various view points such as above Thadepati Pass (3860m) and we were rewarded with 360 degree views that were beyond superlatives. Biki was very ably assisted by Hari whose gentle support and humour will stand him in good stead as a superb trek leader in the future. Our porters Basanta, Umesh and Gorkhali became our trekking companions over the journey as we all got to know each other. Our trek with AME will be an experience we will never forget. But hopefully it will be the start of an ongoing relationship as we plan to trek again in Nepal and will definitely be seeking out AME to lead our adventures."
