Product Description

A fuller introduction to the route, pace, terrain, and overall trip style.

The Khaptad Trek is a hidden gem in Nepal’s far-western region, offering a unique blend of natural beauty, cultural significance, and solitude away from the more crowded trekking routes. Ideal for adventurers looking to explore lesser-known trails, the trek takes you deep into Khaptad National Park, which is known for its untouched landscapes and rich biodiversity.

Khaptad Trek Distance and Route
The Khaptad trek distance covers approximately 60-70 kilometers, depending on the specific route you take within the national park. From Dhangadhi to Khaptad National Park, the distance is around 225 kilometers by road, which takes about 8-9 hours to reach Silgadhi—the starting point of the trek. The trail from Silgadhi to the park entrance is moderately challenging, offering views of rolling hills, waterfalls, and remote settlements.

Khaptad Trek Cost
The Khaptad trek cost varies based on your travel style—guided packages or independent trekking. On average, a guided Khaptad trek might cost around $1,300 to $1,600, including transportation from Kathmandu, guide and porter services, accommodations, and meals. For those opting for a budget-friendly approach, trekking independently can reduce costs, but you'll need to arrange permits and transportation yourself. The cost also depends on whether you choose to camp or stay in basic guesthouses along the route.

Khaptad Trek from Kathmandu
Reaching Khaptad from Kathmandu involves a combination of air and road travel. The quickest option is a flight from Kathmandu to Dhangadhi, followed by a drive to Silgadhi. Alternatively, you can take a bus directly from Kathmandu to Dhangadhi, though this can take around 15-17 hours. The drive from Dhangadhi to Khaptad National Park is scenic but long, offering glimpses of rural Nepal and the unique lifestyle of the far-western communities.

Why Choose Khaptad Trek?
The Khaptad Trek is perfect for those looking to explore an untouched part of Nepal with fewer crowds. The park’s diverse landscapes, from alpine meadows to dense rhododendron forests, make it a haven for nature lovers. It’s also a great destination for spiritual seekers due to the presence of Khaptad Baba Ashram and other religious sites within the park.

Whether you’re an avid trekker or someone seeking a peaceful retreat in the Himalayas, the Khaptad Trek offers a rewarding adventure with a deep cultural and natural connection. With its unique trails and serene environment, it's an ideal choice for a trek off the beaten path.

  1. Welcome to Nepal from all of us at Adventure Mountain Explore Treks & Expedition. We will dispatch a representative to pick you up at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) according to your arrival time. You will meet him as he will be waiting outside the terminal, and soon after you meet him, he will drive you from the airport to the hotel in Kathmandu. Here, you will have some time to rest and prepare for the meeting that will take place after you check in at the hotel. In a brief meeting in the afternoon, you'll meet the guide and find out more about your trip in our office. Following the meeting, we'll take you out for dinner, where you may try some of the regional dishes and enjoy a dance or music performance. Overnight at the hotel in Kathmandu. (D)

  2. You'll have some time to get ready for your trip after breakfast this morning at your hotel. As soon as everything is prepared, the vehicle will transport you to the airport so you may catch a flight to Dhangadhi. Finally, after a spectacular hour and fifteen minutes of flying, the plane takes us to Dhangadhi. Here upon your arrival in Dhangadi, you will once more be driven in a private car and taken to the hotel. You can relax for a bit here before leaving a few hours later to visit the neighboring Jokhar Lake, Botanical Garden, and Aircraft Museum. We'll use bicycles to get to every one of these locations. Once you've finished our excursion, you will return to the hotel for the night's stay. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

  3. After the Air travel, another day of bus travel is planned for today. Today, you'll travel 618 kilometers (up to 8–9 hours) to Silgadhi from Dhangadhi. For that, we will have to walk to the station to catch the bus after breakfast. While on the bus ride, you will get the opportunity to visit some of the most beautiful and difficult hills in the far western region as it passes through the rambling path. After moving on, the bus will stop for lunch in the midst of the road before carrying on to Silgadhi after Dipayal. We will ultimately reach Silghadi in the Evening time after a lengthy bus ride. Once you arrive, you will be led to one of the lodges where a comfortable space is waiting for you. After a long travel, you now have ample time to recover before starting your trek the next day. (B,L,D)

  4. You are all set to begin your adventure today after a hearty breakfast at the lodge. Soon after you start the trek, you'll take the path of trek that leaves the main road. Thenafter, the path quickly transforms into the trail route as it moves toward Jhingrana. As we get closer to Baghlekh village, the surrounding landscape is breathtaking to take in. This community greets us with a number of lodges and mud housing.  From Baghlekh, it takes about three hours of trekking to reach Jhingrana which is the final stop for the day. Overnight at the local lodge in Jhingrana. (B,L,D)

  5. After eating breakfast in Jhingrana today, we'll head to Bichpani. As you follow the trail and get closer to this community, you'll travel over hills that are covered in wildflowers. After some time of walking, you will finally be met by the breathtaking views of the Mountains from the heights of the hill.  Following a filling lunch here in Bichpani, we'll proceed to the Khaptad National Park.  Altogether, to get from Jhingrana to the overnight location at the national park, it will take you around 8 to 9 hours. Therefore, within these hours you will go across rocky terrain, multiple meadows, forest areas, and lakes. (B,L,D)

  6. We shall continue on the trek toward Khaptad Daha today after breakfast. It is a lake situated within the national park at an altitude of 3000 meters.  After exploring the lake, we will move toward the meditation center situated in the forest which is also known as an ashram. After thoroughly exploring the area, you will return to the headquarters to have lunch. And after taking some time to unwind here, you'll climb up to the national park's biggest pasture which is named Ghodedhawan. After fully exploring the surroundings here, you will come back to the lodge to stay overnight.(B,L,D)

  7. Today you will explore the national park for 2nd day. Today we will head towards Sahasralinga which is the highest place in this trek. This is a special place for the Hindu people as it represents the lingas and deities. After fully exploring this place and the beautiful surroundings, you will head back towards your stay. As you head backward, you will get to encounter different birds and animals along the way. After you reach your resting place, you are free to explore or rest. Overnight at the lodge or tented camp.(B,L,D)

  8. After spending two successive days in Khaptad national park, you will finally leave the area and head towards chainpur today. Right after breakfast we will bid farewell and continue our journey toward Chainpur. Continuing the walk in the north direction, you will pass through several local villages before finally reaching Bajhang. Altogether it would take you almost 7 to 8 hours to finally come down to Tamil. Now the trail will finally meet the motor road, where you will catch a 4-wheeler and drive to Chainpur. You will reach chainpur in the evening and remain here for an overnight stay in the lodge. (B,L,D)

  9. Similarly today, we will take a more than 10 hours long drive from Chainpur to Dhangadhi. So we will have to leave early in the morning on this particular day. We will first head to the bus station and catch a bus there. While the bus approaches its destination, it will stop twice for the meal and then again continues. The road here is quite decent and you will get to see the perfect scenes along the route. Finally, after a long drive, you will reach Dhangadi and spend the night in the standard hotel. (B,L,D)

  10. Today, we will depart the Terai region and again head to the nation's capital. After breakfast in this fine Dhangadi hotel, you'll proceed to the airport to board a picturesque flight to Kathmandu. We are sure that on this flight, you'll be mesmerized by the sights of the country's Terai, Hilly, and Himalayan regions. After a pleasant flight, you will soon touch down in Kathmandu, and we will then drive you to your accommodation. After checking there, You can tour the city or visit the well-known markets. Then after, you will arrive to spend the night at the hotel after spending the day in the city as you, please. (B)

  11. Today marks the final day of your great trip in the Khaptad region, and it is time for you to say goodbye to this magnificent Alpine country. We have enjoyed spending a lot of wonderful moments with you throughout the course of this greater journey, therefore it will be hard for us to say goodbye. That being said, three hours prior to takeoff, a welcoming representative will accompany you to the end at Kathmandu International Airport. As this is your last hour in this country, he will bid you goodbye and wish you joy in the future. We hope that once you return home, you'll consider visiting Nepal soon. (B)

"Several months ago, a friend of mine came back from world-round-trip and said, “A.B.C trekking is what you cannot see in any other places but Nepal”, and excitingly showed me a lot of incredibly beautiful pictures from the mountain and the country, Nepal. The story he shared caught my heart and strongly made me want to visit this country. And now, I also strongly recommend this adventure into wild nature. This is the reason why I am here, coming back from 10days Annapurna base camp(A.B.C) to write a review for one of the best agency (Adventure Mountain Explore Treks & Expedition P. Ltd) in Kathmandu and for you. What I have found during this trip is that this trip is therapeutic, educational, and exciting. First of all, in the mountain area, there are no such things as mobile, familiar TV show, disturbing noise, and annoying friends. You are literally surrounded by nature and all you can trust is your guide and your heart. You also have much free time in the mountain, which makes you think a lot about your future. Second, trekking is educational. You may see a various people from around the world as well as local people. This, I believe, is the best way of getting to know each other, as you will see them again and again during the trail. Exchanging their personal story and back ground helps you grow your personality as well. Third, it is exciting. There is no question about it. When I saw the panorama view from A.B.C, I got so excited that I could not take my camera away (I am sure I took more than 100 pictures and video there). That was defiantly worth it. Now, I am going to share a bit about my trekking partner, my guide, Lok Bhatta. He is friendly guy. He is not only experienced guide, but he knows how he can entertain us during the whole trip. His caring and his humor take up my good memory of trip. Since Lok and I spent 11days together, it is no wonder we became a best friends. Also he persistently looks after me. When I wanted him to take pictures, he always s..."

"My mother and I arrived in Kathmandu with just 2 days to prepare for a trek around Annapurna Circuit. We feel very lucky to have met Mr. Tika Regmi and through Adventure Mountain Explore treks we were able to hire a porter-guide to facilitate exactly the kind of trek we wanted, a self-directed trek with Nepali assistance. Our porter-guide Sujan was a trusted and integral part of our little trekking party. He was very knowledgeable about the route, its hotels and side trips, and he even introduced us to local people and gave us interactions with local Nepalese that we could not have experienced on our own, like a tea in the home of a local family! We couldn’t be any more pleased with our trek. Shanna Simmons 1152 Crescent Avenue Klamath Falls, OR 97601 USA shannasimmons@hotmail.com"

"Thanks Tika We arrived in Kathmandu on November 4, 2011 with hopes to do the Annapurna Circuit Trek to Muktinah. We had no firm guide or porters arranged as yet but were lucky to stay at the Blue Horizon Hotel in Thamel where we met Tika Regmi at the Hotel Blue Horizon. Tika is the director of Adventure Mountain Explore which wa located across the street. With Tika's expert help, our trek was arranged with an extraordinary guide, Sittal "Hom" Simkhada and two equally adept porters, Santosh Uperkoti and Sanjeep. Sittal knew the trail very well having done it more than 25 times. He provided information and insights about each peak and landmark along the way. He guided us up and down with care and confidence, setting a good pace that worked for each of us, our ages being 69, 67, and 30 years old. Sittal also got us to our teahouse rooms promptly and made sure we got our meals on time. We never had to ask for service; it was always provided with a smile. We enjoyed the camaraderie or our guide and porters and spent time playing cards together and exchanging stories. Clearly Sittal loved what he was doing and was experienced with every aspect of being a guide. When our daughter became ill along the way in Manang, Sittal conferred with Tika and we took an extra day to make sure all was well before continuing. There was no pressure to move on before we felt ready. When we reached the summit at Thorang la Pass we all celebrated together. It was a group achievement as well as a personal one for each of us. We are pleased to recommend Tika Regni as trek organizer and Sittal Simkhada as guide with our highest esteem and respect.
