The Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment (IMHE) and Tribhuvan University (TU), Nepal, have established the Sino-Nepal Joint Research Center for Geography. The center, jointly built by IMHE and TU, will carry out geographical research of mountain hazards, mountain ecology and environment monitoring of the southern and northern slopes of the Himalayas. The collaboration aims to promote science and technology exchange between China and Nepal. Dr. Deng Wei, director of IMHE, hailed the founding of the geography center as an important platform for enhancing the quality of scientific education in Nepal. The vice chancellor of TU, Prof. Gunanidhi Neupane, said that the center would greatly facilitate the teaching and research capacity of geography in TU and contribute to the training of high-level personnel.
