The Tour de‘ Lumbini, an organisation, is to organise a promotional cycle rally from Kathmandu to Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha on the occasion of the co-occurrence of the birth, enlightenment and demise of Buddha. The Cycle Rally will be led by World cyclist, Pushkar Shah. The organizers said that the rally is to be organised with the objective of spreading the message that Lord Buddha was born in Nepal. The rally will pass through five world heritage sites including Bouddha, Durbar Square, Swoyambhu and Lumbini. As many as 108 people are expected to join the four-day cycle rally that will begin on May 11 and conclude on May 14 after reaching Lumbini. Speaking at a programme to shed light on the event, Magsaysay award winner and social entrepreneur Mahabir Pun said that peace will be established in the country if the teachings of Lord Buddha are adopted. Chief of the Umbrella Foundation, Australia, Linda Harwood, said that there was no dispute over the birthplace of Buddha falling in Lumbini, Nepal and expressed happiness for the opportunity to be part of the Tour de‘ Lumbini. Likewise, Member-secretary of the Lumbini Development Trust, Ajitman Tamang, said that such rally will help development and promotion of Lumbini. Chief Secretary, Leelamani Poudyal said Buddhist religion can be the guiding principles of one’s life and said that he was very inspired from it.
