Forestry conservation activities have gained huge success after Kumroj VDC located in the eastern belt of the Chitwan district was declared as a model village for bio-gas promotion. β€˜Nobody goes to forest to collect fire woods after the development of alternative energy’, said a local Raju Silwal. Over 3,435 tons of fire woods have been saved in the VDC with the construction of bio gas plants in the village that has reduced 10,168 tons of green house emission every year, said conservationists. The VDC was declared bio-gas model village two years ago. After the declaration, no locals have been ever reported to face wild animal rampage while collecting fire woods. It has not only helped protect environment but also save the health of the locals has improved these days. The VDC was declared a model after 374 out of 750 households constructed bio gas plants along with toilets. The declaration was made to lessen effects of climate change preserve bio diversity and enhance conservation efforts. The programme is gaining popularity in neighboring VDCs these days. source: nepalnews.com
