The 2558th Buddha Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Lord Gautam Buddha, was observed across the country by organising various programs with the message of peace and harmony on Wednesday. As the birth, attainment of enlightenment and Nirvana coincidences on the same day of the full moon of the fourth lunar month of Baisakh (April-May), the followers of Buddhism all around the world celebrates the day with respect and devotion to Buddha. The Buddhists also visit the birth place of Buddha Lumbini, Swayambhu, Boudha, Kirtipur and Patan to observe the special function organised on the day. Buddha, who was born as Siddhartha Gautam in southern Terai region of Nepal in 543 BC, left his palace in search of enlightenment and the true meaning of life. Lumbini which is situated in Rupandehi district is also listed in UNESCO world heritage site. It is also a public holiday today on the occasion of Buddha Jayanti. Meanwhile, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, Vice-President Parmanand Jha and Prime Minister Sushil Koirala wished all a happy Buddha Jyanti in their messages.
