Product Description

A fuller introduction to the route, pace, terrain, and overall trip style.

Tsum valley is the most remote Himalayan valley, and was a restricted area that was opened only recently to visitors. This is an area that was once a part of Tibet, so the inhabitants are Tibetan origin, with their own language and unique ways of life. This trail also used to be a trade route between Tibet and Nepal. To get to Tsum valley, we have to enter from the Manaslu Conversation Area, which was opened to travelers just after 2008.This is why this region has less tourist facilities and is more off the beaten path compared to other trekking regionsin Nepal. The Tsum valley trek begins from Arughat after a long bus ride from Kathmandu. After a night at Arughat, the route ascends up through the Budi Gandaki valley. The trail then continues up to the main route of Manaslu until Jagat, and then turns towards Tsum valley. On this trip, you can explore Tibetan villages with their unique cultures, and the many different ancient Gombas that were unseeable before this trail was opened to the public. This is a unique option for travelers who want to visit rarely seen places and cultures that have beenlargely untouched.

Tsum Valley is a remote Himalayan trek where you will have basic tea house accommodations and basic foods to eat. The cultural and natural beauty will give you a perfect glimpse of high Himalayan life.

"I just recently did the Tsum valley trek in May/June 2014 and I must say it was quite remarkable!!! I think if you're looking for an off the beaten path culturally rich experience it's the way to go. I ended up going solo with my guide and porter and it was a zen like get away. I did this trip as a way to have some time alone and to reflect and I got just that. It was really nice visiting all the villages along the way and to also visit some of the monasteries. The views and scenery in the valley left me speechless at times. I was worried about the monsoon season approaching but it was not an issue, we had two days of rain during the 20 day trek and both times we got a village just in time to not get caught by it. As far as difficulty it was fair, nothing that was ever dangerous in any way but did have a few days of a good uphill grind. In my whole time I only ran into 3 other tourists, which is what I was looking for - to really get away. The accommodations along the way were pretty basic but it was always possible to find a room with a bed, cold shower and a meal. There was by no means any options for a luxury stay but that's not the point of going to Tsum valley. I ended up going with AME treks and made my arrangements before leaving Canada and it was a nice setup. The guide spoke pretty good english and taught me a lot about Nepalese culture along the way. "It has been two month now that we were on our trek around Manaslu with Ramesh and Sandip and we still have it in best memory and very often think of it. We spent a great time in the mountains of Nepal and also had a lot of fun with our guide Ramesh and our porter Sandip. They tought us two funny games which we were playing in the evenings. Looking back to the two an a half month we were travelling in Nepal, the trek was the best thing we did! All the talks with Ramesh gave us a brither understanding about the Nepali culture. We saw and learnt a lot about Nepal on our trek. Our highlight was Tsum Valley where we haven't seen many other tourists. The autumn has coloured all the plants in red, orange and yellow. The tibetan culture impressed us with all its temples and prayer walls. And for the first time on our trek we saw the big high Himalayan mountains from quite close. Not only the landscape is amazing in Tsum Valley but also the people and their way of living. We loved it to sit with them in the kitchen and watch them cooking. All behind in this beautiful valley we celebrated Anita's birthday with the family of the guesthouse and a snickers springroll. :-) On our way back it started to rain and it didn't stop for 30 hours. This was the reason why later we couldn't go over the Larke pass. There they had heavy snow at this time. We highly recommend all of our friends for trekking in nepal and use Ramesh Adhikari as a guide at Adventure Mountain Explore Treks."
