Product Description

A fuller introduction to the route, pace, terrain, and overall trip style.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek is one of the most popular, moderate, and classic treks in Nepal and Short Annapurna Base Camp trek is the shorter version of this classic base camp trek. It’s the most direct route that leads you to the base camp located at the altitude of 4,130 meters above sea level, in the Annapurna Sanctuary. This base camp trek, surrounding you with 360 degrees, jaw-dropping panorama of Annapurna III (7,555m), Annapurna South (7,219m), Gangapurna (7,455m), Machhapuchare (6,993m), Baraha Shikhar / Annapurna Fang (7647m), Hiunchuli (6441m), and Singu Chuli (Fluted Peak) (6,501m), also allows you to stand face to face with the 10th highest mountain on earth, Annapurna I (8,091m).

This trek, starting Jhinu, takes you through the dense forest of  Rhododendron, Oak, Cedar and Bamboo that starts around Chhomrong and continues till Deurali. However, the trek onwards from Deurali to the Annapurna Base Camp is above the treeline, in a more exposed area with only fewer trees and alpine meadows and the trail is rocky and barren and dotted with glacial streams, boulders and the distinct moraine formations left by old glaciers. . The view of Machhapuchhre dominates most parts of this Annapurna Base Camp trekking trail. However, apart from the views of the mountains, lush green forest, waterfalls, streams and other natural elements, this trek provides ample opportunity to delve into the lifestyle and rich culture of the inhabitants (especially Gurung people).

Adventure Mountain Explore Treks and Expedition’s 9 days Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek starts with your arrival in Kathmandu and ends with your departure from Kathmandu. You will spend 2 nights in Kathmandu, 2 nights in Pokhara and the remaining nights in the Annapurna region, trekking to and from the base camp. The trek starts with a drive to Jhinu from Pokhara. The trail will take you through Chhomrong, Sinuwa, Bamboo, Dovan, Himalaya, Deurali and the Machhapuchhre Base Camp to the base camp of Annapurna. The return trek is on the same trail. The average walking hour on this trek is 6-8 and the elevation gain each day is always below 1000 meters.

Hence, this trek is perfect for any physically fit trekker with limited time, but looking for a high-altitude base camp adventure.

If you are already in Pokhara you can also choose to join the group or start the trek  from Pokhara.

The best time to enjoy this trek is March to May and October to early December. If you can stand cold weather, this trek can also be done from December to February, which makes it a perfect off-season Annapurna trek.

Moreover, if you are looking for an extended Annapurna Base Camp Trek, we highly recommend adding Ghorepani and Poon Hill to the itinerary and go for our 13 days Annapurna Base Camp Trek.

But, if you are looking for other short treks in the Annapurna region with great Himalaya Views in Nepal, we highly recommend Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek, Mardi Himal Trek or a little longer Ghorepani Poon Hill with Ghandruk Trek

Click any day to expand full details, elevation notes, meals, and overnight stops.

  1. Your Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek with Adventure Mountain Explore Treks and Expedition begins with your arrival in Kathmandu. Upon arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, one of the company representatives will meet and greet you and help you transfer to the hotel booked for you in Kathmandu. Check into the hotel and take a short rest and freshen up. In the afternoon, one of the company representatives will meet you at the lobby of the hotel to brief you regarding the upcoming trek, check your trekking gears and introduce you to your trekking guide. After the meeting, you can spend the remaining day at leisure. The best way to spend the remaining day is to explore the nearby market and eatery options to buy your next meal.

If your flight is scheduled to arrive in the afternoon, evening, or even at night, your guide will directly meet you the next day roughly half an hour to forty five minutes before leaving the hotel for the tourist bus station, for trek preparation. Overnight in a hotel in Kathmandu.

  2. Your journey today starts carrying packed breakfast from the hotel in Kathmandu. Leaving the historical Kathmandu Valley behind, today you will drive to Pokhara, a very magical lake city, located roughly 200 kilometers west of Kathmandu. This transfer today from Kathmandu to Pokhara will be on a Luxury Tourist Bus. The luxury tourist buses to Pokhara are scheduled to leave Kathmandu for Pokhara at 7:00am. You will be picked up from the hotel around 6:45 am by your guide and transferred to the bus station.

Exiting the valley from its west end, a 200 kilometer drive begins for Pokhara. Shortly after leaving the valley, the drive will be on the Prithvi Highway that weaving through the heart of the hills connects two major valleys in Nepal (Pokhara and Kathmandu). The drive is very picturesque as you can witness mountains, green hills, terraced fields, Trishuli River that runs along the highway for almost 50 kilometers, small traditional settlement of people, hamlets and so on. The highway is also full of motels, lodges and restaurants that serve the accommodation and meals needed by travelers. The bus will stop for lunch at one of these restaurants and also for a few toilet breaks before reaching Pokahra. The drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara is only 6-7 hours, if not obstructed by road conditions and highway traffic.

In Pokhara the bus will drop you at the tourist bus station. From here, you will be transferred to the hotel booked for you in Pokhara. After a short check in formalities you will check into the hotel and you can spend the remaining time at leisure. The best way to spend the evening in Pokhra is to take a stroll around the lake area or simply go for a boat ride in the Phewa Lake. You can also explore the market and collect last minute stuff in Pokhara. Overnight in a hotel in Pokhara.

    Meals: Breakfast

  3. The journey to Sinuwa begins, following a hearty breakfast at the hotel in Pokhara. From Pokhara you will first drive to Jhinu, before starting your trek to Sinuwa. Your guide will help you transfer from your hotel to the jeep station in Pokhara. From the jeep station, leaving the picturesque valley behind, you will drive to Jhinu. The drive is roughly 3-4 hours west of Pokhara. The jeep will drop you off at the place called Matkiu, which is the starting point of the trek. About 20 minutes walk on a gradually ascending narrow trail that runs along the Modi river, through the forest  will take you to the highest and the longest suspension bridge on this trek. This bridge connects Jhinu Danda and Simrong. While crossing the bridge, you can enjoy the splendid views of the valley and a gorge making way for Modi Khola river. After crossing the bridge, it’s a steep ascent to Jhinu Danda. Further continuing on the steep uphill stone steps trail you will now hike to Chhomrong. Enjoying the excellent views of the Himalayas from Chhomrong. You will now descend through the village of Chhomrong enjoying observing the lifestyle of Gurung people inhabiting the area. The walk further to Sinuwa is on a series of ascending and descending stone steps that goes through the thick forest of oak, rhododendron and cedar trees. Occasionally you can enjoy the view of the tip of Machhapuchhre. Relishing the tranquility of the woods and the sound of the river flowing along the trail, you will continue to Sinuwa. In Sinuwa, you will check into the lodge for your next meal and comfortable accommodation. Overnight in a lodge in Sinuwa.

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

  4. The trek to Deurali begins after a hearty  breakfast in Sinuwa. Leaving Sinuwa, you will continue on a gradually descending trail to Kuldighar. Slowly you will now enter a bamboo forest rich in flowers and ferns. The forest grows more dense around this section of the trail. The descending trail continues till Bamboo. From Bamboo, the trek is mostly on an ascending trail. Continuing further up through the jungle, soaking in the magnificent view of the cascading waterfalls that rushes down to meet the Modi River, you will further hike to Himalaya past Dobhan. You can also spot a small shrine named Pujinim Barah worshiped by local Gurung people. Continuing further up from Himalaya on endless stone steps, you will soon walk past a huge rock formation called the Hinku Cave. The trail after Hinku Cave gradually ascends along the Modi River to Deurali. From Himalaya, you will also enter the avalanche risk zone, therefore, you need to be very mindful while walking this section of the trail. In Deurali, you will check into the lodge for a warm meal and comfortable accommodation. Accommodation today will be in  dormitory-style rooms that are designed to accommodate 4-5 people. Overnight in a lodge in Deurali.

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

  5. Today you will finally reach the destination of the trek, that is, the base camp of Annapurna. You will start this trek after breakfast in Deurali. From Deurali, the trail running parallel to the Modi River gradually ascends, still in the avalanche-risk zone, all the way up to the Machhapuchhre Base Camp. Once at Machhapuchhre base camp, you will come closest to Machhapuchhre. Heading west from Machhapuchhre Base Camp, as you progress towards the Annapurna Base Camp, you will be greeted by grand views of Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Gangaupurna and Hiunchuli. This view is very captivating and will not just accompany you all the way up to the base camp, but also keep you motivated to hike further up to the base camp. Enjoying the 360 degree view of the surrounding mountains, walking parallel to the glacier, a around 2-hour hike will ultimately take you to the Annapurna Base Camp. On reaching the base camp, you will check into the lodge for a warm meal and cozy night stay. Accommodation today will be in a dormitory-style room, which you will be sharing with 3-4 other people. You can spend the time before sunset enjoying the mountain sunset views. You will call it an early night, as you will have to wake up early tomorrow morning to enjoy the mountain sunrise view. Overnight in a lodge in Annapuran Base Camp.

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

  6. Wake up before sunrise to see the sunrays creating a magical glitter on the Himalayan peak. Witness how the silhouette of the mountain glows golden as the morning sun sheds its light on the surface of the mountains and how quickly they regain the original color as the sun rises higher up in the sky. Here you are surrounded by the stunning 360 degrees panoramic views of the 10th highest peak on earth- Annapurna I (8,091m), Annapurna III (7,555m) and Annapurna South (7219m), Gangapurna (7455m), Machapuchare (6993m), Baraha Shikhar / Annapurna Fang (7647m), Hiunchuli (6441m),  and Singu Chuli. Spend some time taking in the magnificent views and admiring the surrounding beauty; capturing them in your mobile or cameras and feeling accomplished. You will then have your breakfast and start the return journey. Your destination today is Bamboo, which is roughly 13 kilometers from the Annapurna Base Camp and the journey takes about 8 hours. The downward journey is on the same trail that you took to get to the base camp. Slowly leaving and enjoying the view of the majestic mountains and the picturesque terrain behind, you will reenter the forest of bamboo, oak and rhododendron past Machhapuchhre Base camp, Deurali and Dobhan and stop at Bamboo for the night. In Bamboo, you will check into the lodge for a warm meal and overnight stay.

     Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

  7. Bidding adieu to lovely mountains, hosts and the entire Annapura region, today, you will get back to Pokhara. For this you will start the trek after breakfast in Bamboo. Retracing the steps and slowly leaving the dense jungle behind, you will now hike down toward the farmland in the lower Annapurna region. Bamboo to Jhinu is about 8 kilometers walk and the journey on foot takes roughly 6 hours. The hike is all the way down to the jeep station from where you will take a shared jeep to Pokhara. It’s a mesmerizing 3 hour drive and the mountain and the landscape views are unbelievably stunning. In Pokhara, you will be transferred to the hotel booked for you. You will check into the hotel and spend the remaining time either resting at the hotel or exploring the lake area, enjoying the serenity of the Phewa Lake. You will then get back to the hotel for overnight stay.

    Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

  8. The journey to Kathmandu begins after a hearty breakfast at the hotel in Pokhara. From the hotel, you will be transferred to the tourist bus station in Pokhara to catch your bus to Kathmandu. You will be driving to Kathmandu in a luxury tourist bus (private car/jeep/minvan/flight can be arranged at extra cost). The drive once again will be on the Prithvi Highway. Enjoy the scenic bus ride. The bus will stop for lunch and short toilet breaks somewhere along the highway for you to buy your lunch and stretch your legs. Provided the road condition is good and is not affected by highway traffic, this journey (Pokhara to Kathmandu) only takes 6-7 hours. From the bus station in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to the hotel booked for you in Kathmandu. After a short rest at the hotel, one of the company representatives will meet you for farewell dinner and feedback. Overnight in a hotel in Kathmandu.

    Meals: Breakfast and Farewell Dinner

"Several months ago, a friend of mine came back from world-round-trip and said, “A.B.C trekking is what you cannot see in any other places but Nepal”, and excitingly showed me a lot of incredibly beautiful pictures from the mountain and the country, Nepal. The story he shared caught my heart and strongly made me want to visit this country. And now, I also strongly recommend this adventure into wild nature. This is the reason why I am here, coming back from 10days Annapurna base camp(A.B.C) to write a review for one of the best agency (Adventure Mountain Explore Treks & Expedition P. Ltd) in Kathmandu and for you. What I have found during this trip is that this trip is therapeutic, educational, and exciting. First of all, in the mountain area, there are no such things as mobile, familiar TV show, disturbing noise, and annoying friends. You are literally surrounded by nature and all you can trust is your guide and your heart. You also have much free time in the mountain, which makes you think a lot about your future. Second, trekking is educational. You may see a various people from around the world as well as local people. This, I believe, is the best way of getting to know each other, as you will see them again and again during the trail. Exchanging their personal story and back ground helps you grow your personality as well. Third, it is exciting. There is no question about it. When I saw the panorama view from A.B.C, I got so excited that I could not take my camera away (I am sure I took more than 100 pictures and video there). That was defiantly worth it. Now, I am going to share a bit about my trekking partner, my guide, Lok Bhatta. He is friendly guy. He is not only experienced guide, but he knows how he can entertain us during the whole trip. His caring and his humor take up my good memory of trip. Since Lok and I spent 11days together, it is no wonder we became a best friends. Also he persistently looks after me. When I wanted him to take pictures, he always s..."

"My mother and I arrived in Kathmandu with just 2 days to prepare for a trek around Annapurna Circuit. We feel very lucky to have met Mr. Tika Regmi and through Adventure Mountain Explore treks we were able to hire a porter-guide to facilitate exactly the kind of trek we wanted, a self-directed trek with Nepali assistance. Our porter-guide Sujan was a trusted and integral part of our little trekking party. He was very knowledgeable about the route, its hotels and side trips, and he even introduced us to local people and gave us interactions with local Nepalese that we could not have experienced on our own, like a tea in the home of a local family! We couldn’t be any more pleased with our trek. Shanna Simmons 1152 Crescent Avenue Klamath Falls, OR 97601 USA shannasimmons@hotmail.com"

"Thanks Tika We arrived in Kathmandu on November 4, 2011 with hopes to do the Annapurna Circuit Trek to Muktinah. We had no firm guide or porters arranged as yet but were lucky to stay at the Blue Horizon Hotel in Thamel where we met Tika Regmi at the Hotel Blue Horizon. Tika is the director of Adventure Mountain Explore which wa located across the street. With Tika's expert help, our trek was arranged with an extraordinary guide, Sittal "Hom" Simkhada and two equally adept porters, Santosh Uperkoti and Sanjeep. Sittal knew the trail very well having done it more than 25 times. He provided information and insights about each peak and landmark along the way. He guided us up and down with care and confidence, setting a good pace that worked for each of us, our ages being 69, 67, and 30 years old. Sittal also got us to our teahouse rooms promptly and made sure we got our meals on time. We never had to ask for service; it was always provided with a smile. We enjoyed the camaraderie or our guide and porters and spent time playing cards together and exchanging stories. Clearly Sittal loved what he was doing and was experienced with every aspect of being a guide. When our daughter became ill along the way in Manang, Sittal conferred with Tika and we took an extra day to make sure all was well before continuing. There was no pressure to move on before we felt ready. When we reached the summit at Thorang la Pass we all celebrated together. It was a group achievement as well as a personal one for each of us. We are pleased to recommend Tika Regni as trek organizer and Sittal Simkhada as guide with our highest esteem and respect.
