Everest Base Camp with Chola Pass and Gokyo Lake.

In December of 2016 I went on a trek to Mount Everest Base Camp with the trek returning through Chola Pass and Gokyo Lake. I had looked at a few different trekking companies and decided to book with Adventure Mountain Explore Trek. Words alone can't adequately describe how fantastic this trip was for me from start to finish. I was met at the Airport in Kathmandu by my guide Ram Kaji Bhujel who greeted me and took me downtown to Tika's office where Tika explained everything on how the trek would proceed and took great care to ensure I understood the route we would take and how everything would proceed. My guide Ram then made sure I was prepared with the correct gear for the trek and anything I lacked we together went to some shops in Thamel to get what I needed. (I had a winter coast, but he said I really needed a down coat and we went to a shop where I could rent one for the trek and I am glad I did because in the higher elevations I definitely needed it). The next day I was taken on a guided tour of UNESCO World Heritage Sites around Kathmandu which was very interesting and beautiful. Ram arrived at my hotel the following morning exactly on time to take us to the Airport for our flight from Kathmadu to Lukla where we would start our Trek. At Lukla I met our Porter Bhak Ta who is a nice guy with a cheerful smile. On the trek everything was explained to me by Ram as to how everything would go and what we would see each day. Each evening after dinner he would ask how I felt about that day and then explain what we would be doing the next day and we would decide at what time we would start each day. Every morning he would review what we would be doing that day so I always understood how things would go. Ram is a very friendly and likable guy who is not only nice to talk with as we trekked (he speaks English well), but he is also very knowledgeable of the scenery and the wildlife we encountered. He pointed out to me animals he would spot, that I frankly would have missed if he had not pointed them out to me. The scenery on this trek is quite frankly beyond anything I have seen in the past as the mountains here are at a height and scale larger than anywhere else on this planet. Ram had made sure I was properly prepared both gear wise and knowledge wise as to what we would be trek through. He wisely had me purchase some crampons for the Chola Pass which we absolutely needed to get through there safely. That is another point I want to stress is that Ram made sure that safety was the priority through the whole trek. He frequently asked how I was doing and feeling and I could tell he was watching me to make sure I was handling the physical nature of the trek. We did scheduled acclimatizing hikes during the trek so my body could slowly and naturally adjust to the high altitudes we were trekking toward. Again, Ram was monitoring me to make sure I was adjusting alright. We always had plenty of water and supplies we needed throughout the trek. The guest houses we stayed at were always good. All in all I really had a fantastic time on this trek. I hope to get the opportunity to visit Nepal again and do another trek someday and if I do I will definitely choose a trek with Adventure Mountain Explore.
