Nar and Phu Valley were closed to tourists until 2002, and are far removed in both the time and space from the neighboring Annapurna Circuit. As you branch north up the Nar Valley, the flood of trekkers passing through Manang turns to a tiny trickle. Yak herding and agriculture remain the mainstays of the economy rather than tourism, and the traditional stone-walled villages seem to have maintained a lifestyle untouched for centuries.
The trek takes you up narrow gorges to medieval villages, past impressive chortens, herds of blue sheep and spectacular Cliffside trails, and finally over one of the region’s highest trekking passes. You will pass abandoned settlements once used by Khampa rebels and teams of mountaineers headed to the popular peaks of Himling, Kang Garu and Ratna Chuli.
The trek to Nar Phu Valley is an excellent, adventurous add-on while visiting the Manang region or partaking in the the Manaslu trek. After NarPhu, you could even continue to Jomsom, either over the Thorung La or, if you are properly equipped, via Tilicho lake and Meso Kanto La, making full use of time.
Trekking to Nar Phu Valley begins from Besisahar, which is a 6-hour ride from Kathmandu. The Annapurna Circuit trek also begins from Besisahar, where you can meet other trekkers who will mostly be doing the Annapurna Circuit. The Nar Phu trek leads up through the valley of Marshyangdi until Koto, and leads towards a northern valley to Dharmasala and Khyang. This route ends up in Nawal, which turns into a higher route to Manang from Pissang (part of the Annapurna Circuit trail), then you could join in on the Annapurna Circuit trek, or head down to Pissang for a shortcut route back to Kathmandu. You will end up again at Besisahar and take a bus ride back to Kathmandu.

Trekking Seasons
We do have two best seasons to attempt this trek to Nar Phu valley. As this trip is a big trip to you, we always suggest you to come at the right time of the year as far as possible.
Spring: - (March, April, May) - Best warmest time to trek. Rhododendron flowers in bloom- excellent trails and clear skies, best visibility. Good Temperature, warmest weather of the year.
Autumn: - (Mid September, October and November) - excellent trails, clear blue skies, best visibility.
Winter months: - (December, January and February) are also good, but it’s obviously colder. You have to be prepared for this. It is up to you to plan this trek at this cold time or not.
Summer: - Monsoon, so rain and visibility can be a big issue (from Mid June, July and August). We do not suggest you this time for the trek.
Mountain Weather
The weather conditions in the mountains are notoriously difficult to predict. During the day it can be nice and warm and the nights are generally always cooler.
The weather you will experience on this Trek is extreme and rather unpredictable so it is best to be prepared for all eventualities. Temperature during the trek to Nar-Phu Valley is very normal and even hot below 2500m; the expected temperature during a day is from 20 to 25 degree Celsius during spring months and 10 to 20 degree Celsius during the autumn months. The night time can drop to 5 to 0 degree Celsius. Temperature above Koto (2600m), the expected temperature during the day is from 5 to 10 Degree Celsius at spring months and 6 to 15 degree Celsius at autumn months. The However, above mentioned chats of temperature are the expected but temperature can be different as per the everyday weather conditions of the mountain so it is unpredictable. Expect the unexpected!
Acclimatization
There is no way to prepare for altitude other than to spend time at the mountain. Being in very good physical condition will help ameliorate some of the exhaustion that people often feel, but it will not prevent altitude caused medical problems such as Acute Mountain Sickness. This itinerary is designed with a high degree of awareness of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) in mind and to ensure a comfortable and safe adventure trek in the Himalayas. Staying well hydrated and getting plenty of rest may help. The maximum elevation of this trek will be reached at Nagthali Danda 3300 meter above sea level. This is not serious altitude line but it may happen if you do not care about it. We have specially designed our trek itinerary with keeping maximum acclimatization days into the itinerary to make you acclimatize but ultimately your response at altitude is due to genetic factors. Trekking above from 3000m, walking will be more difficult because of the drop in oxygen levels and the humidity. At these heights there is around 20%- 30% less oxygen than at sea level, so your body needs time to adapt these conditions and it is absolutely essential to have sufficient time for acclimatization. That’s why; in this given itinerary all of these factors have been taken into consideration while design this itinerary to minimize the risk of AMS.
Communication facilities on this trek
These days, there are enough communication facilities on this trek, most of the local villages has local telephone booth thus if required, you can easily communicate with your friends and family however the cost is slightly expensive, 2 to 3 US dolor per minute. Nowadays, during the clear days, reception of Nepalese cell phones is on throughout the trail, our guide will have Cell phone on the trip so that we can talk to you very often to pass message to your family if required.
Train Yourself
This trip requires walking on altitude above 3000m from sea level for the duration of 4 days. So it is not so important to have walking or previous trekking experience. The best preparation you can do is to hike, even if it is under gym conditions. Running will help your stamina but does not fully prepare your muscles for a strenuous hike.
Go for walks. It is advisable to go for frequent walks which should include some uphill and downhill sections if possible in your surrounding area. Take your daypack with you with at least a weight of three kilograms or more. This will simulate the conditions you will encounter while on your trekking with us. Join a gymnasium. Ask your gym instructor to work out a fitness program that consists of progressive resistance exercises. An experienced instructor will be able to tailor a safe exercise regime based on your age, condition and strength. Work with a schedule that progresses to higher resistance or weights as you develop your fitness.
